Rights to Warmth

Rights to Warmth is a joint initiative with Age Concern - Help the Aged to increase people's understanding of the importance of staying warm to their fundamental health and independence.

Some people do not heat themselves properly through low income and having to choose between heating and eating. Rights to Warmth promotes the many ways people can get the financial help they need to stay warm and make their homes energy efficient.

But very many people just think that energy is too expensive anyway and although being cold is uncomfortable, it does not have any lasting impact. They are wrong. They are undermining their own health and cause major health emergencies that will take them to hospital.

Rights to Warmth is a joint initiative developed by Attend with the support of Help the Aged to encourage and enable low income households to afford and to use adequate energy for heating and cooking.

Financial Support

If you have a low income, you may be able to claim benefits.  In particular, Pension Credit Guarantee and Council Tax Benefit are not claimed by many people who are entitled to them and can provide enough money to pay for fuel bills.  As well as the elderly, those with a long term disability, or with low income and a family are also entitled to this extra money.

These benefits are important because they are large enough to make a big difference and are designed to give you the flexibility to meet your needs and help you stay warm and independent.  Check your entitlement with your local council who are there to help you.
